WHEN IT IS HARD TO TRUST
October 13, 2026
Today's song: "I will trust in you." Lauren Daigle
Jeremiah 17:7-10
As we continue our thread of faith, believing God and knowing that He is for us, trust is the foundation on which faith is built. Before we can have faith, we must trust the One whom we are supposed to have faith in. Before we can trust, a person must prove trustworthy. Where we as Christians often falter is by comparing human trustworthiness with God's immutable and unerring trustability. That, dear sister or brother, is like comparing a bicycle to a sports car. They both have wheels, a seat, steering mechanisms, and brakes, but they are as far apart as night is from day. You could never look at a bicycle and call it a sports car. So why do we look at God and lump him in with the people who have hurt us, lied to us, manipulated us, and stolen from us? What has God ever done to prove Himself unworthy of trust? That is the question for today. The answer is nothing. Jesus said that He came so that we could have Life and that Life more abundantly, and that Satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy. God is not only the promise-maker, but also the promise-keeper. Not only will God never lie, but He cannot lie. Not only will God never change, but He also cannot change. God's word is truth. (John 17:17-19)
Father, as we start our day, help us to rely solely upon you. Help us to believe you. Help us, Lord, to know, as we have never known before, that you are for us. And because you are for us, who truly can be against us? Reveal yourself to us in ways we have never seen before. Draw us closer to you as we walk out our faith and work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Lord, I speak healing over the sick; I speak mercy and grace over those who choose a life devoid of both. Lord, I speak comfort to the grieving, and light into the darkness of those fighting the mental battle over life itself. And Lord, as we encounter others today, help us not to respond in kind. Lord, if they offer hate, we offer love. If they offer anger, we offer joy. If they offer lies, we offer truth. If they bring turmoil, Lord, help us to bring peace. And Lord, finally, let our light shine brightly before everyone we meet today. Holy Spirit, work in our lives today and create a hunger in those we meet, a hunger for our Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Love in Christ,
Pastor Trish
